Tezos Ukraine’s Startup Incubator: Participants Get to Practice

Back in April, Tezos Ukraine launched a startup accelerator for newbie developers. By early September, the participants have studied theory and got to practical tasks.

Herein, we cover the structure of the course, tell about the candidates’ successes, and share their thoughts on blockchain development.

The studying

The accelerator’s goal is to create a motivated team of blockchain developers.

Only nine have made it through the prelims: four frontend devs, three backend devs, one smart contracts developer, and one DevOps. In July, they got a new MacBook Pro each and got on to two months of theory.

During the course, they studied the materials on their field and blockchain development, communicated with mentors, and got tests every week. The mentors were very strict but everyone got an A.

By September, only a few items have remained on the theory schedule, so the participants are preparing themselves for the final tests. Once they pass, frontend and backend devs will join forces with DevOps to work on their pet project like a blockchain explorer or some other informational service, which, in spite of its relative simplicity, will require them to use all the newly-acquired knowledge.

Participants’ thoughts about Tezos Ukraine’s Accelerator

The mentors brought together the first team:

  • Andrii Kovalchuk, frontend
  • Olexandr Petrenko, frontend
  • Volodymyr Hrabovskyi, frontend
  • Oleksiy Altyntsev, frontend
  • Vyacheslav Mikhalkin, backend
  • Roman Sayenko, backend
  • Roman Phandorin, backend
  • Yustina Ovcharova, smart-contract dev
  • Maxim Saparbaev, devops

They joined the accelerator because of their confidence in the prospects of Tezos and blockchain technology. Most of them have no experience in commercial development, though they worked on their own projects. Once the program ends, they will continue studying and improving the Tezos ecosystem.

More on that in our mini-interview Why Tezos.

A little ways down the road

The mentors have noticed lots of strength in the participants. Tezos Ukraine reported that to their partner projects and potential employers.

Our goal is to build full-fledged teams and make them even stronger during Tezos Blockchain Hackathon 2022,” says Natalia Shevchenko, Tezos Ukraine COO.

It’s less than four months till the end of the program, and they will include pet projects, working on a real task with a mentor’s supervision, and individual projects.
