Starlords: a new phase of generative NFTs from outer worlds
Everyone has probably dreamt about space. Watching Interstellar, playing Kerball Space Program, or trying to photograph the moon. And now you can own a piece of space in Starlords.
This post discusses why Starlords is a unique NFT project, how to create your own galaxy there, and what you can do.
NFT Must Evolve
In a piece about what would be interesting to see in Tezos, we mentioned next-generation NFT: with on-chain storage of tokenized objects, the ability to modify them, and some kind of interaction. The Genius Contracts team has already shown that it is possible to make an NFT clock on Tezos that will always show the current time.
The Starlords developers have gone further and incorporated a three-dimensional space with stars generated by random grains.
How to Create Your Own Space in Starlords
First, you need to get a wallet in the Ghostnet test network. If you are using Temple Wallet, just switch the network in your account and get the test tez from the tap.
Then go to the Starlords App. Switch to the Mint tab with the star-shaped icon and mint any of the top three tokens: Center, Arms, or Background.
These tokens store space. The more expensive it is, the better the chance of getting some nebulae and slots for embedded objects.
Once minting is complete, go to the Home tab (it is marked with a house icon).
Select any token and click on it to start rendering and get to your section of space. Left-click to rotate the camera, and press the arrow buttons to move around in space.
If you want to see what other space scenery Starlords can generate, replace the number in the address bar with any different number, but no more than 5000, and press Enter. Starlords will display this token in view-only mode.
How to Add a Proto-planet to Your Section
You need to mint one or more Simple tokens on the Mint page. Then go to your section of the space, and open the Slots menu in the panel to the right.
Select any slot with a Kind 2 value from this list and click the hammer icon. Select any token and press the Forge button.
Confirm the transaction in the wallet and reload the page. Spin the camera around and find the prototype planet.
On the Home page, each NFT has two icons at the top: image and VR.
When you click on the image, Spacelords will display the NFT with a dynamic camera. The VR icon will enable rendering for the VR helmet if it is connected to your computer.
What’s Good About Starlords
You will not find your space plot or planet prototype in the wallet. If you add them manually to the contract address, they will not be rendered correctly. Starlords’ NFTs contain parameters for rendering a space plot, not textures, as one might think. The team plans to add automatic preview creation to NFT to display the tokens in other applications.
Starlords does not store data in the IPFS, meaning the token owner does not risk losing their plot of space when an IPFS node clears the cache.
As a result, Starlords NFTs could be at the foundation of a new branch of generative art development that is rendered in 3D and takes up almost no space on the blockchain.
