We Are Putting the Hackathon to a Halt but Not Cancelling It
Tezos Ukraine has consulted with Tezos Foundation and decided to postpone the final stage of Tezos DeFi Hackathon 2022 until better times. The reason is the war.
We are happy to have been able to organize the biggest hackathon for CIS blockchain developers: $260,000 in prize money, 1125 participants, 150 teams, and 46 mentors. The decision to suspend was difficult, and Tezos Foundation offered an alternative to the prize money: grants for those who want to continue developing on Tezos.
Why We Put the Hackathon to a Halt
Although the participants, mentors, and the team of Tezos Ukraine are safe, it is difficult for us to focus on our work. We are painfully aware about the constant shelling of Kharkiv, Mariupol, Gostomel and Irpen, about our deceased compatriots and friends, about blatant lies coming from the mouths of the invader’s officials like “We haven’t attacked anyone”, about the arrests of and threats to anti-war protesters. We witnessed some of those events and cannot just dismiss everything and keep working like nothing is going on.
Many participants and mentors live in Ukraine and are busy doing important things: taking relatives out of danger zones, volunteering, or even personally defending the country. If we do not suspend the hackathon, everyone will find themselves in unequal conditions. For those reasons, we had to postpone the finals indefinitely.
Good News for the Participants
Partners and mentors are very happy with the participants. Many talented developers came to Tezos DeFi Hackathon 2022. Tezos Ukraine and Tezos Foundation are sad to part with you for the time being.
If you plan to continue developing at Tezos, Tezos Foundation offers all teams to consider receiving a grant. You can refine and launch your project from the hackathon or do something new. To do so, please fill in the form.
What Happens Next
We will continue to work to the best of our abilities. We have several large-scale projects planned for 2022 and want to launch them all, but now we will have to focus on the Ukrainian audiences.
Another necessary step we have to take is to close comments on social networks. We don’t want our pages to become another battlefield.
And please don’t forget that you, too, can help Ukraine. Check out our post about it.
